American Football Idioms

Like many of games, American football derived from English games. The colonist brought a form of soccer with them, which was later played at east coast universities.

Examples:


Carry The Ball - means to be in charge of something, to be responsible for something


First String - means the best group of players on a team


Game Plan - means strategy ( from the game of football )


Move The Goalposts - means to unfairly change the conditions or rules of something that you are doing


Run With -  means to implement something ( to take a ball in a football game and run with it )


Run Interference - means to intervene on behalf of someone in order to protect him or her from something
