Footbal Idioms

Football is a family of team sports that involve, to varying degrees, kicking a ball to score a goal. Unqualified, the word football is understood to refer to whichever form of football is the most popular in the regional context in which the word appears.

Examples:


Nutmeg - means humiliating your opponent by tapping the ball through their open legs


50:50 Tackle - means a challenge in which two players commit to hitting each other as hard as possible


Sitter - means an opportunity to score so breathtakingly straightforward that it is actually harder to miss


Schoolboy Defending -  means a display of defensive ineptitude more commonly seen on a kindergartens playing field


Sweeper - means  not to be confused with the Caretaker Manager
